Privacy Policy for WhenDid.io

Last updated: October 22, 2025

Welcome to WhenDid.io! We care deeply about your privacy and want to be transparent about how we collect, use, and protect your data. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it.

1. Who This Applies To

This policy applies to all users of the WhenDid.io web app, whether you're using it anonymously or have signed up for additional features.

2. What We Collect (and Don't)

✅ We collect:

  • Email addresses — only if you sign up to sync your data or receive updates.
  • Verification codes — sent to your email to sign in securely.
  • Your activity data — the buttons you create and when you click them, stored either locally or in the cloud depending on your settings.

❌ We do NOT collect:

  • Your name, location, or personal identifiers beyond your email.
  • Any passwords — we don't use them.
  • Credit card numbers — all payments are handled by Stripe.

3. How We Store and Protect Your Data

  • Local storage: All user data is stored in your browser unless you choose to enable cloud sync.
  • Cloud storage: If you sign up, your data is securely backed up to our cloud service. Data is encrypted during transmission.
  • At-rest encryption: We do not currently encrypt cloud data at rest, but we are evaluating options to add this in the future.

4. Optional Analytics

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics platform, to understand general usage patterns and improve site reliability.

Plausible does not track individual users, set cookies, or collect personal data. All analytics are processed in aggregate form — meaning we see overall counts (like “number of visits” or “most-clicked buttons”) but never who performed them.

If you prefer total anonymity, you can block analytics requests using any browser extension or network-level blocker without affecting your use of WhenDid.io.

If we ever adopt a different analytics system or add more detailed tracking, this policy will be updated in advance.

5. Cookies and Similar Tech

We use minimal cookies and local storage only as needed to support essential functionality like staying signed in or storing your local data. We do not use cookies for advertising or behavioral tracking.

6. Payments and Billing

Payments are securely handled through Stripe. We never store your credit card details—Stripe manages that entirely. Stripe's privacy policy governs their use of your information.

7. Sharing and Public Access

WhenDid.io is designed for private use. Your data is never publicly shared. Future Family and Teams features may allow limited sharing within your group, but only with your explicit setup and consent.

8. Communications

We'll only email you for:

  • Login verification codes
  • Important updates to your account
  • Product announcements and feature updates if you've opted in

You can unsubscribe from optional updates at any time.

9. Data Control

  • Export your data at any time from the app
  • Request deletion of your cloud-stored data (feature coming soon)
  • Choose to keep your data entirely local by not signing in

10. Children's Privacy

WhenDid.io is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone in that age group.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and notify users via email (if applicable) or through the app interface.
